What steps can I take if my HOA is not transparent with its financials? – Perez Mayoral

HOAs often aren’t transparent with their financials, including bank statements, contracts, and agreements with vendors for work done in the community. However, the law requires that these documents be kept in the HOA’s official records for at least 7 years. As a homeowner, you have the right to inspect these records. You can request to see all of the association’s documents, and recent changes in the law have made it even easier for homeowners to do so. The HOA is now required to provide a list of documents that were shown to you and explain which ones were not made available during the inspection. As a homeowner, you’re a part owner of the association, so you have every right to know how your money is being spent and what’s happening within the association. I recommend speaking with an attorney to help understand all your legal rights.
